About Us

"Inspiring Young People Through Sport Across South East London"
Based at Bacon’s College in Southwark, the PE & School Sports Network works with over 70 primary, secondary, and special schools to deliver high-quality PE, inclusive competitions, and leadership opportunities—helping every child get active, build confidence, and enjoy the benefits of sport.

Our strategic business development sits within the following key areas:

  • Professional Development – Empowering schools to teach, assess, and lead PE with confidence across the whole school, ensuring every teacher can inspire every pupil.
  • PE & School Sport – Delivering a broad, balanced, and inclusive competition programme that gives every child the chance to take part, shine, and enjoy sport.
  • Health & Wellbeing – Helping every child understand and embrace a healthy lifestyle, with a curriculum that teaches the value of physical and mental wellbeing for life.
  • Leadership – Equipping young people and volunteers with the skills, confidence, and opportunities to coach, lead, and make a real difference in their schools and communities.

Examples of this are as follows:

1. Building a Borough-Wide Strategy for Professional Development
By investing in staff training, mentoring, and team teaching, we help schools maximise their PE and School Sport Premium spend to improve teaching quality, increase pupil engagement, and raise attainment in PE. The outcome is a workforce equipped to deliver high-quality, inclusive PE for every child.

2. Authoring Schemes of Work and Curriculum Mapping
One of the biggest challenges schools face is integrating creativity within the National Curriculum. To support this, we have authored schemes of work from Reception to Year 6, along with a curriculum map that aligns with Real PE and the borough-wide competition programme. This ensures a progressive and cohesive PE curriculum that promotes skill development, physical literacy, and pupil progression at every stage. Schools can enhance lesson planning, enrich their curriculum, and deliver outstanding PE experiences.

3. Leadership and Volunteering
We believe that young people are the leaders of tomorrow. Through structured training, school-based initiatives, and targeted programmes for girls and young women, we develop leadership, coaching, and volunteering skills. Our programmes empower young people to plan, deliver, and support PE and sporting events, boosting confidence, teamwork, and community engagement. Investment in this area through the PE Premium ensures pupils gain transferable life skills while contributing to the success of PE and school sport across the borough.

4. Inclusive and Extensive Competition Programme
Competition is a powerful tool for developing teamwork, communication, resilience, and enjoyment in sport. The Network runs the largest competition programme in Central London, offering pupils access to over 25 different sports. Through structured tournaments and inter-school leagues, young people develop both personal and social skills while enjoying high-quality, inclusive sporting opportunities. PE Premium funding supports participation, transportation, equipment, and staff training to expand access and ensure every child can compete.

5. SEND Provision and Inclusive Practice
We are highly experienced in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our progressive care clubs, delivered in partnership with Bacon’s College, provide safe, structured, and inclusive opportunities for children and families to engage in sport and physical activity. PE Premium funding enables schools to deliver targeted interventions, purchase adaptive equipment, and ensure all pupils can benefit from high-quality, inclusive PE and extra-curricular opportunities.

6. Health and Wellbeing
The health and wellbeing of children is at the heart of our work. Through our ten-point programme, which includes parental engagement projects, mental health initiatives, and community partnerships, we tackle physical inactivity and rising obesity levels. Children access a health-oriented curriculum that promotes lifelong healthy habits, physical literacy, and mental wellbeing. Strategic use of PE Premium funding supports a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, ensuring children understand the importance of being active, making healthy choices, and thriving both physically and mentally.
